Tiers of Texture

There are rows of reasons why this "prima ballerina" steals the show.
Two of which?
First, that smile. I would risk a bellyache from indulging in its sheer sweetness.
And secondly, who doesn't like lace and tulle? Especially when delicately layered to the eyes delight. Enjoy the dance.

Finnish Connection

I bumped into this band of Finnish designers on Via Montenapoleone one morning last week. I was immediately taken by their polished-conceptual look. They were kind enough to pose for a photo but had to hurry off to an appointment.

Later that day, I spotted Elina Peltonen, also a Finnish designer. We chatted briefly before she too had to dash off for an appointment.  An hour or two later, while strolling down Via Spiga, I caught a glimpse of her chatting with the group of three, and I made the connection. The light should have gone off earlier, after all it's a well accepted fact...stylish packs travel together.

Right side first

I am a false lefty. I write with my left hand, but, I am ambidextrous with everything else. When looking at this image, I can't help get the sense that this guy is a total righty. His rolled right sleeve; three-ring right tattoo; agenda held firm in his right hand; his left hand tucked away in his pocket; and his gaze effortlessly directed to the right.

Silver Breeze

Metallics for the summer... adore! The warm summer light makes the shimmer speak a language I love to hear. Delicate reflections as the breeze blows.

Pitti Immagine 76

Before my trip to Capri, I had the immense pleasure of participating in Pitti People, a project conceived in conjunction with this season's Pitti Immagine. Check out Pitti Immagine for more details. Simona, Daniele and myself, along with a great bunch of other Italian bloggers, were charged with the task of shooting the international players who make Pitti what it is, one of the most high profile fashion trade shows on the planet. Our images were then posted daily on a specially built wall on the grounds of the Fortezza dal Basso for all attendees to see. For a look at the fantastic results, head over to Pitti's blog

Long Weekend in Capri

Hello there. I just got in from a long weekend in Capri, where I had the honor of celebrating the marriage of two of my best friends. It was a magnificent weekend filled with love, laughter, incredible food, late night table dancing, and dancing to the wee hours in the rain (a thunderstorm to be precise). The newlyweds are now off on safari in Tanzania, and I am back in front of my computer here in Milan. Let's get back to where we left off...street style.

Greta, Rock Chic

I had the pleasure of meeting Greta the other day. She's a fellow blogger, dabbles in public relations and works as a stylist. Yeah, your basic fashion wiz-kid. She has a fantastic sense of style and dresses with fashion conviction. Check her out at go baby's room

Cristina, Smile

You can never go wrong with black and white in the summer. Paired with neutral colored accessories, the look becomes fresher.

Gianluigi Bernacchi, The Enthusiast

This past Saturday afternoon I had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with Gianliugi. I was sitting at the Colonne di San Lorenzo, just relaxing after returning from an adventure with Simona the previous evening. When I saw Gianluigi coming my way, I thought that he looked rather smart and whipped out my camera and took a couple shots. I later learned that he was just out for an afternoon stroll and not dressed for any particular engagement. That’s one of the things that I love about Italian formality (particularly in the older generation), the habit of dressing well whenever they exit their homes.

The first thing he asked me when he reached my bench was whether I was passionate about photography. To this I replied yes and followed up by asking how long had he been taking photos. He replied, “Well you see that is a bit of an indiscrete question,” but went on to answer, “I first picked up a camera when I was eight years old and that was 73 years ago.” My jaw dropped. He then shared that although photography is his true passion, he actually worked in film throughout his career.

The thing that impresses me the most about Gianluigi is that, notwithstanding his age and experience, he still has a strong desire to learn and accomplish. He told me, “there are great photographers who really know the art of photography; I am not one of them, but would love to become one.” When he stated this, he raised his hand in the air to draw a space where these photographers exist. Observing this, I witnessed his determination to travel there.

Gianluigi, I don’t know, I’ve never even seen your work, and I am far from an expert, but I’d bet that you have already arrived.
